There may be a risk of scarring with any laser, in most cases scarring is not a significant risk when removing tattoos with the ND Yag laser. Older lasers have long been associated with scarring as they were very aggressive and did carry a very high risk of scarring. As the ND Yag laser does not heat the surrounding skin significantly the rick of scarring is reduced. Genetic pre-disposition to forming scar tissue and the resistance of green pigment causes the risk of scarring.
